Saying the words ‘John Mayer’ actually make me feel happy. Listening to his music makes me extraordinarily happy. Watching him perform live and having an entire stadium light up with iPhone flashlights during ‘Gravity’ is pretty much perfection in this world.
Mr Mayer has been around for yonks, and I’ve always liked his stuff, but it wasn’t until recently that I really, you know, LOVED his stuff. I would literally describe his voice as smooth velvet. He nails that perfect bluesy rocky folky tune, balanced with insane guitar solos and a chilled out vibe. His voice possesses the ability to melt hearts and his lyrics speak the bold truth. His appreciation and love of music bleeds through his songs, and when I first heard Free Fallin’ – I’m not joking when I say it literally felt like a rebirth.
If you have a chance to listen to his stuff, here’s a list of my favourites:
Continuum (the entire album)
Waiting on the World to Change
Queen of California
No Such Thing
I remember going to his concert with the one and only Liz, and we were both commenting on the remarkable relaxed and chilled vibe of the night. So different to other concerts like Beyoncé where it’s one crazy dance party, his concert was large but intimate. It felt like a one on one night with John Mayer and I’m more than ok with that. And like Jordan Baker says, ‘I like large parties. They’re so intimate.’
You know what Jordan? I agree. John Mayer, you are perfection.
